This opulent department store, with its three pointed gables and glass-roofed atrium, was hailed by the press in 1905 as a magnificent building in which you can ‘sense the big wide world’. Just like in London and Paris, the wares were showcased in large display windows. Furthermore, the store’s pursuit of constant change has always been reflected in its interior, not least in the many extensions and refurbishments throughout more than a century of history. Oberpollinger is currently illustrating what is meant by 21st century shopping. With the renovation launched last year, this traditional institution is being transformed into a visionary, open-plan department store that melds its historical character with contemporary urban lifestyle.

HOW TO FIND US

Oberpollinger is located in central Munich, just a stone’s throw away from Karlsplatz square (known as ‘Stachus’). The quickest way to get here is via the underground/urban rail station ‘Karlsplatz (Stachus)’. To plan your journey, please visit the site of Munich’s public transport provider at mvv-muenchen.de

If you are coming by car, the store can be reached via Maxburgstrasse. Here, you will find the entrance to the store’s multistorey car park, which is open around the clock. The maximum vehicle height is two metres. Parking costs €3.50 an hour between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., and €2.00 an hour between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. The maximum day charge is €28.00 and the maximum night charge is €8.00.
