Welcome to Oberpollinger
Reports from enthusiastic customers and the daily press alike made it clear that by opening Oberpollinger on 14 March 1905, the Hanseatic merchant family, M. J. Emden & Sons, had pulled off a coup. The “breath of the big wide world” blew through the luxurious department store, located on Neuhauser Strasse, said the “Münchner Neueste Nachrichten” newspaper. From the very start, it was the iconic power of Oberpollinger and the work of architect Max Littmann that attracted visitors in their droves.
Munich-based Oberpollinger has been constantly reinventing itself since its founding and is a melting pot of tradition and modernity. As a constantly evolving brand, several years of renovations began in 2016, planned by architect John Pawson.
In 2017 the new “Living” floor opened following with even more international brands and in 2018, the interior design of the new Ground Floor was unveiled with the Accessories, Beauty and Jewellery departments.
The Ivy day bar, which opened on the Second Floor in the summer of 2019, is also worth a detour. Sitting in the Ivy, you will find yourself surrounded by turquoise and green tones, wood and mosaics; the large window façade looks out over Lenbachplatz with its buildings steeped in history and big trees. However, anyone who comes here should not miss out on the day bar’s culinary offerings. The Herzog day bar on the Ground Floor is also a good choice for a coffee, freshly squeezed juice or a glass of champagne to round off a successful shopping trip.
Discover our sophisticated range of services too, including personal shopping, the chauffeur and limousine service, the alteration studio and our beauty lounges.
